GOLF TOURNAMENT SET TO SUPPORT CHARITIES ASSOCIATED WITH

 ‘A SIMPLE PARISH PRIEST’

ON AUGUST 20, 2010

Fr. Bob Hale, C.S.B., was a priest that both policemen and parishioners loved. A medium height, stocky, balding, unassuming gentleman who served as pastor of Irondequoit’s Christ the King parish from 1989 to 1998, and who died unexpectedly in 2000, Hale was most comfortable in a variety of places: riding along in a police cruiser, giving a sermon at Mass, or on a local golf course repairing self-made divots.

In recent years since Hale’s death, the Irondequoit Nightstick Club, PBA has awarded scholarships each year to local high school students who are also Christ the King  parishioners. To help maintain the fund that had been seeded by both the Irondequoit Nightstick Club, PBA and Christ the King parish, many members of the Irondequoit Nightstick Club, PBA will be participating in an annual golf fundraiser. A committee of volunteers from Christ the King parish is managing the details, and the tournament’s proceeds will benefit both the Irondequoit PBA’s Fr. Bob Hale Memorial Scholarship Fund and Christ the King Parish.

“We were looking for ways to support the scholarship fund named in Fr. Hale’s honor as well as the parish he served for many years, and his interest in golf lead us to start the tournament,” said Ken Fettinger, longtime Christ the King parishioner and friend of Hale. “He was a golf fanatic...albeit a beginner at the game while he was here. Once he broke 100, the hobby became a passion. To show its support of his hobby and care for him, a contingent of parishioners gave him a trip to Pebble Beach for his 25th anniversary of ordination…it was an unforgettable experience for him.”

The tournament will be held at The Brookwoods Country Club in Ontario County, Friday, August 20, 2010. There are a number of participation levels available, including Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, Tee Sponsor, Golfer, Dinner Guest or Patron. Details can be found at http://www.churchofctk-fundraising.org/GolfTournament/index.htm or by calling Christ the King Rectory at (585) 266-1288 or Ken Fettinger at (585) 342-6243. Advanced registration is required by Monday, August 10, 2010.
